Greetings from Uganda. I am wrapping up my sabbatical leave, during which I worked on Sowing Hope, a project researching Bethany Land Institute’s programming and the meaning, application, and impact of integral ecology, as proposed in Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’. Bethany Land Institute was also recently featured in Notre Dame magazine – with print copies sent to over 160,000 people! We are so thankful for Managing Editor John Nagy and the Notre Dame team for featuring BLI in the summer issue of the magazine. The article can be read, or listened to, here.

I am happy to share the news that the Catholic Media Association awarded my book  Who Are My People 1st place prize in the category of Gender Issues – Inclusion in the Church in its 2023 awards.

Who are My People was also recently featured in a Book Symposium at Contending Modernities. Check out the discussion and my response here.

Finally, I was honored to give the commencement address at the Global City Seminary of New York before heading back to Uganda for the summer. Titled “Soil Matters,” my address discussed the importance of planting seeds of service and sowing hope in the world around us, and encouraged graduates to never be afraid to touch the soil and dive into the work God calls us to do. Congratulations to all the graduates!! Read the commencement address here.

I will now finish the summer at BLI and return to South Bend to start the school year in August. I wish you all a blessed end to the summer.
