Earlier this month, I had the honor of serving as a keynote speaker at Baylor University’s Together at the Table: Hunger and Poverty Summit. Gathering scholars, students, and practitioners from across the nation, and the world, the summit fostered rich conversations about the urgent, complex work of ensuring a sustainable food supply for all. It was a true joy to be welcomed so warmly into this community of collaboration and hope.

In my keynote, I shared the story of the Bethany Land Institute in Uganda, an initiative that brings together environmental regeneration, education, and economic empowerment to address food insecurity and environmental degradation. At BLI we seek to embody a vision of hope grounded in the soil, in community, and in a spirituality of care for creation. Speaking alongside many inspiring leaders reminded me again that, although the challenges we face are daunting, signs of hope continue to spring forth when we commit ourselves to nurturing relationships, building institutions, and starting small, starting well, and starting now.
